"JalopJeep" (JalopJeep)

That was me when I first laid eyes upon the new Cherokee on Jalopnik. Minus the fur and funny hat. So that is why I was so shocked when I dropped an audible "holy sh*t" to myself and rubbernecked to get a second view of a new Cherokee passing on the road today.
As a pretty traditional Jeep guy (I think boxes on wheels look perty) I was so surprised at how much I liked the front end. Kind of indifferent on the rear end, although I'm leaning more towards digging it. Hated it in the pictures, loved it in person, go figure.
Sure articulation leaves a lot to be desired with IRS/IFS but that comes with the times and the needs of the consumers, but from the looks of everything I've seen and read it seems to do a swell job holding it's own off the beaten path.
I think some soft 8s and MTs would look seriously good on the new Cherokee. I think I just realized I offer up that opinion about every Jeep.
Thumbs up Jeep, you guys got my approval. (Which I'm sure is very valuable to them considering I'm a college student who doesn't plan to buy a new car in the next 8 years)

as a fellow XJ owner, I agree, the new Cherokee is sweet. The only thing I hate about it is the inclusion of an electric parking brake.

I have seen a couple and even driven one. The looks are a lot better than in the pictures for sure, but as a package still leave much to be desired. The REAL big problem with the new Cherokee is its underpinnings. Its pathetic and drives like another CRV and the world doesn't need another god damn CRV. and for that I declare that they should all be burned. If they made this with a proper 4wd Drive train IFS and solid rear I would probably love it, hell even with IRS I might like it, But a FWD based horizontal motor layout I cannot in good conscience accept.

Look, following up on the XJ Cherokee was going to be a monumental task and I do not envy the guys (and gals) that had to make this work. That being said, I can't bitch and moan about Jeep making another SUV with the option for a real 4WD system and locking rear diff. It's a good thing.

I tried my best to make myself like these but I can't. I looked at countless pictures when they were first announced and was just starting to appreciate the new look, until I saw one in person last week.
I stared at the car for a good five minutes until the owner came out of the grocery store and gave me a dirty look. It just doesn't do it for me. I wish I could like them.
